The Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society & KICX917 invites you to join us, in Lively, every Wednesday from [4-8pm] for our 8th Annual ‘Rock The Farm’ Free Concert & Farmers’ Market summer series at the Anderson Farm Museum.
At our Farmers’ Market [4-8pm] you can purchase fresh, local produce and products from our 20 Vendors, set-up under tents in the Centre Court of AFM.
From [6-8pm] we really ‘Rock The Farm’ with our Free Concerts, featuring local Bands. Our August Line- Up includes: Alain Lessard & The Tremonics Aug.3rd, D&A Aug.10th, Campana & The Almighty Rhombus Aug.17th, Fiddleworks Aug.24th and our new ‘Youth Band Showcase’ on Aug. 31st.
Be sure to bring a folding chair or a blanket to sit on, some sunscreen & a hat and maybe an umbrella just in case; enjoy a ‘summer supper’ from our Snack Food Vendors: The Cotton Candy Man, DM Food Carts- Pork N’ Dogs & Fired-Up Pizza [Lively] and stay for our Free Concert.

Call For Vendors for 10th Annual Fall Fair, Sept. 10th [9:30am-6pm]
...Hosted by The Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society

Call for Art, Craft, Business Vendors and Community Groups and Farmers/Agri-Producers to participate in the 10th Annual Fall Fair – hosted by the Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society- Sat. Sept. 10th from [9:30am-6pm] at the Anderson Farm Museum, in Lively.

The Registration FEE for Vendors/Community Groups is $25 per [12’x12’] Booth –set-up throughout the 14acres site and $35 for Farmers’ Market Venders for one space under our three [20’x20’] marquee tents, in the Farmers’ Market Area.

Note: All vendors & Community Groups must provide Certificates of Liability Insurance or can purchase Liability Insurance coverage @$25 through the AFMHS.

This month, we are preparing our 2016 Fall Fair Site-MAP/Program and there are only 10 spaces left on the print-version of our Site-MAP. 4,000 copies of our 2016 Fall Fair Site-MAP/program will be printed before June 16th –in time for summer distribution throughout CGS.

The Deadline to be included on the print-version of our 2016 Fall Fair Site-MAP/Program is May 20th.

Note: Vendors/Groups may Register for the Fall Fair after May 20th but will not be listed on the print-version of our Site-MAP/Program

...New & Expanded Business Sponsorships + Fall Fair Vale Event Sponsorship

The Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society [AFMHS] was excited to announce new Business Sponsorships for our ‘Rock The Farm’ FREE Concert/Farmers’ Market summer series & Fall Fair plus a Vale Event Sponsorship for our Fall Fair at our April 23rd AGM, in the Stable of the Anderson Farm Museum. [AFM]

Hia Media, Long-Term In-Kind Sponsors of AFMHS [2012-2016] has generously offered to expand its sponsorship of our annual ‘Rock The Farm’ and Fall Fair this year by helping us revise our 2014 PR Materials. Stephanie Turpin [Graphic Designer, Hia Media] is working with CIO AFMHS to revise the three ‘Rock The Farm’ Posters [July/Aug. Concerts + Farmers’ Market] + Fall Fair Poster + Fall Fair Site-MAP/Program- originally designed by Alek Luopa [LDSS graduate, Laurier University student]. Walden Srs & Pensioners Woodworkers, Walden Lions and 1st Waters Scouts ...Three KEY Long-Term Community Partners/Sponsors of AFMHS

Walden Srs & Pensioners Woodworkers have been Long-Term Community Partners/Sponsors of the AFMHS since 2006...providing $1,000+ In-Kind services annually to support the AFMHS events + thousands of volunteer hours re: small capital projects for the AFM.

Walden Srs & Pensioners Woodworkers have been volunteering in the community for the past 35 years. Their Wood Shop is located, in the Granary of AFM.

Over the years, this group has worked with & for most of Walden’s community organizations- providing thousands of hours in free labor to help those who are in need. The group is a valuable resource that is called upon regularly and quite often goes out of its way to assist other volunteer groups in fulfilling their goals and objectives.

Their Membership varies- but they average 15 members- with 10 members actively volunteering to work on special community projects & at annual events at the Anderson Farm Museum.

In 2006, the Walden Srs & Pensioners Woodworkers began Long-Term Partnerships with the AFM and the newly formed AFM- providing thousands of hours of In-Kind Services annually- for the Curator of AFM & the AFMHS

The Walden Srs & Pensioners Woodworkers are KEY Community Partners of the AFM and see themselves as "...Guardians of the AFM heritage buildings and 14acre site" Connie Moxam, Chair, Dave Furino, Vice-Chair and Reggie White, Treasurer- Walden Srs & Pensioners Woodworkers

Walden Lions Club members support AFMHS by: coordinating all children's activities/ sitting on our committee every year; helping us set-up the 14acre site on Wed/Thurs & Friday & take-down the site on Sat; Claire Hobden is area coordinator for Vendors [behind the Stable] + Bob Hobden mans the Rear Entrance [7-9:30am] checking for Parking Permits & directing vendors to parking areas + Mait Wilson [our new President AFMHS] gives tours of Loft of the Barn all day Sat. at the fair.

Every year, they pay $500 to sponsor our FREE Cotton Candy [and prepare/hand-out cotton candy] & for the last two years they have paid $800+ to rent an Inflatable Slide & castle for the children to enjoy

They have also been official Long-Term Partners/Sponsors AFMHS [2012-2016] providing $1,000+ In-Kind Sponsorship for Fall Fair, Rock the Farm & Christmas Tree-Lighting Celebration. The children are always excited to meet Santa & Mrs Claus [Bob & Claire Hobden], in the Stable & the Granary at the CTLC.

Walden Lions are Long-Term Community Partners/Sponsors of ‘Rock The Farm’ summer series: Since 2012 their members have voted to pay $500 to sponsor one of our 'Rock The Farm' Concerts; Mait has been Co-Chair of 'Rock The Farm' Farmers' Market Committee since 2013; they provide 1/2 the volunteer manpower every Wed [3-8:30pm] setting-up & taking down the Gazebos/tables/chairs for our Farmers' Market Vendors & have a Booth.

We could NOT host our annual 'Rock The Farm’ FREE Concert/Farmers’ Market summer series without their support!

The 1st Waters Scouts have also been long-term Partners/Sponsors of the AFMHS since 2009 providing $1,000+ In-Kind Services annually to support our annual events at AFM.

1st Waters Scouts have been long-term partners/sponsors of the AFMHS re: Fall Fair since 2009: volunteering to help the Walden Lions with FREE children's activities at Fall Fair; Leaders, Christel Brandle & Don Dodds are on our Fall Fair committee and help with set-up of the 14acre site Friday -working with LDSS Students & take-down Sat

Christel mans the main entrance [7-9am] checking for On-Site Parking Permits; directing Vendors to the correct On-Site Parking areas & later supervises handing-out the 250 FREE Lunches for our Volunteers

 Don is the Area Coordinator for the front of the Farm- supervising set-up of Vendors/Groups, Farmers' Market area & community Partners [7-9:30am]- trouble-shooting for the rest of the day + supervising take-down of tents, gazebos, tables, chairs at front of the site

 The 1st Waters Scouts & leaders volunteer all day to help our Fall Fair committee & other community groups with FREE activities- especially with set-up/tear-down of the 14acre site

The Scouts are also Long-Term Community Partners/Sponsors of 'Rock The Farm' summer series: providing 1/2 the volunteer manpower every Wed.- working with the Walden Lions setting-up/taking-down the Farmers' Market area [3-8pm]. Our board really relies on the young people to help our senior volunteers with the physical jobs

...Announces new Executive & Welcomes 4 New Directors!

The Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society [AFMHS] is pleased to announce our new Executive for 2015, 2016: Mait Wilson- President, Elsie Stephenson-Vice-President, Betty Budgell-Treasurer, Paulette Smith-Secretary and Gwen Doyle- Chief Information Officer and welcome our four new Directors: Don Dodds, Ken Hood, Karen McLeod & Paulette Smith.

The AFMHS is excited to have Mait Wilson as our new President [2015, 2016]. Since 2009 Mait has donated thousands of volunteer hours working with the AFMHS at the Anderson Farm Museum [AFM]- as a Walden Lion [KEY Long-Term Community Partners/Sponsors of AFMHS] - Mait has been a member of our Fall Fair & Christmas Tree-Lighting Celebration Committees; Co-Chair of our ‘Rock The Farm’ Concert/Farmers’ Market summer series and since 2013 he’s been one of our Directors. You can meet Mait at most of our annual events at the AFM- sometimes you’ll find him in his yellow, rain gear ;sometimes on STAGE with Benham at our ‘Rock The Farm’ Concerts or inside the Loft of the Barn-giving Tours & sharing his stories about growing up on a farm- during the Fall Fair.

Don Dodds is the second 1st Waters Scouting Leader to become a member of our AFMHS board. Don has donated thousands of volunteer hours at AFM –representing 1st Waters Scouts [KEY Long-Term Community Partners/Sponsors]- on our ‘Rock The Farm’ & Fall Fair committees and participating in all our other events at AFM. He worked at INCO for 35 ½ years [as a miner & a Millwright] and has been with Scouts Canada for 28 years- working in all of the sections from Beavers to Rovers and serving on many committees such as Beaverees Cuborees, Area Youth & Rendezvous [N Ontario 4 day scout camp]. His leadership skills with youth are especially helpful when LDSS students help us set-up the 14acre site on the Friday morning, before our Fall Fair & with youth volunteers at ‘Rock the Farm’ & Fall Fair. He’s a man of few words but lots of action!

Paulette Smith may be new to our Board but she has been a resident of Lively for the last 40 years and a very active Volunteer. She is a member of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada at St. Pius X Parish: leading the choir, assisting Father Pat with mass at Meadowbrook & organizing the family picnic for three parishes. She also sits on the Board of the Walden Non-Profit Housing in Lively. We are excited to have Paulette as new Director and Secretary of AFMHS.

When Karen McLeod- one of the Anderson family granddaughters- volunteered to on our board we were thrilled- especially with the 100th Anniversary of the Farm House & Barn taking place in 2016! She [& her sister Jean Dudar] brings a wealth of information about the Anderson family & first-hand experiences about life on the Anderson Dairy Farm. Karen is a Whitefish District Lion; has been a member of our Fall Fair Committee and has participated in heritage events at the AFM.

"...I am a granddaughter of Greta and the daughter of Jack Anderson, so I would like to see my heritage continue in the Anderson Farm Museum heritage projects...working with the AFMHS, the Curator of AFM & GS Heritage Museums."

We were very surprised and pleased when Ken Hood, a new member of our 2015 Fall Fair Committee enthusiastically volunteered to be a Director. We had been trying to recruit some new, keen, younger volunteers to bring fresh ideas & new perspective to our board and Ken was just what we needed! He is a Big Brother, new member of the Walden Lions and on the JoeMac Football Executive, since working as a referee last year. His experience in landscaping/grounds maintenance will be helpful at 14acre AFM. We look forward to working with him.

"...Born and raised in Coniston...I began volunteering with Big Brothers as a "Big" and with group outings, one of which was helping the Lions deliver the Christmas presents to the kids after the telethon...This led me to join my local Lions club- the Walden Lions...Their relationship with supporting the Anderson Farm Museum and Rock the Farm and Fall Fair events led me to join the AFMHS"

Public Service Announcement For Immediate Release March 10, 2015 The Greater Sudbury Public Library Presents: Teen Battle of the Bands 2015 The Teen Battle of the Bands will be held on August 26th, 2015. The Battle will be held at the Anderson Farm Museum, 156 Main Street, Lively, ON, P3Y 1M6. This will be in conjunction with The AFMHS & the Greater Sudbury Public Library as part of 2014 ‘Rock The Farm’ FREE Concert/Farmers’ Market Summer Series –hosted by Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society - at the AFM and sponsored by KICX 91.7FM-Media Sponsor of ‘Rock The Farm’ & Fall Fair since 2011. Registration is open for the Teen Battle of the Bands competition. Pick up a registration form on our website or at any of our locations today! ...Help ‘Plant the Anderson Farm Museum Yellow’

With Daffodils of Hope!

On Oct. 24th Alain Bock, Teacher and 16 Gr. 7/8 students from Ecole St. Paul, walked to the Anderson Farm Museum, carrying their shovels, pitch forks , small hand tools and a tarp- as Partners in our Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society ‘Plant the AFM Yellow’ with Daffodils of Hope Project.

We all gathered behind the Farm House, to plant 100 Daffodil Bulbs, in 4 small gardens, surrounding our young Apple Trees. Aino Laamanen & Hermina Hubert, Betty Budgell & I each had a Team of 4 students to help us : mark-out the 4’ gardens; dig-up the sod & prepare the ground; plant the bulbs; add new bags of soil and clean-up. And Alain helped out everywhere-as needed.

It was hard work but everything was completed in 3 hours. The students were outstanding!

2014 ‘Rock The Farm’ Teen Battle of The Bands

...Was a Huge Success!

The 2014 ‘Rock The Farm’ Teen Battle of the Bands, hosted by The Greater Sudbury Public Library, the Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society and KICX 91.7, was held on Wednesday, August 27 at The Anderson Farm Museum.

Our judges were Vic Theriault, Sudbury music promoter and musician! Trinette Atkinson, Midday Host and Program Director at KICX 91.7 and Albert Dubuc local musician and host on CKLU 96.7.

Scott Ziliotto Promotions Director at KICX 91.7 was our MC for the evening.

Marks of Existence- last year’s Winner of 2013 The Teen Battle of The Bands- was our Opening Act and really ‘Rocked’ the Farm!

The rock band CDK took First Prize winning a full day recording session at Cosmic Dave’s Sound Emporium Studio. Metal band Naxxarian took Second Place winning 100$ donated by Walden Today. Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society ...Hosts 8th Annual Fall Fair September 13th at Anderson Farm Museum!
Join us at the Anderson Farm Museum [AFM] in Lively, on Saturday, September 13th [10am-4pm] for the 8th Annual Fall Fair- hosted by the Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society [AFMHS]. Admission is FREE & there is something for everyone to enjoy in the Barn, Granary, Farm House, Creighton Log Cabin & Stable and throughout the 14acre site.

...6th Annual Fall Fair A huge Success- In Spite of the Weather!

The AFM Heritage Society would like to express our sincere appreciation to everyone who helped make our 6th Annual Fall Fair a huge success- in spite of the cold, rainy, windy & unpredictable weather on Sat. Sept. 8th!

We couldn’t host this annual FREE community event without the long-term, enthusiastic support of: our Fall Fair Committee; Councilor Jacques Barbeau, City of Greater Sudbury, Greater Sudbury Museums; our Business/Corporate/Media & Community Sponsors; 90+ Participants & Performers and our 150 Volunteers! Together we make a great TEAM!

 Our 2012 Fall Fair Committee- with representatives from 16 Groups + individual Artists- who have worked tirelessly(Feb-Sept.) coordinating the fair

Project- Service to Others

RTO/ERO proudly operates a grant program for its 47 Districts, providing $100,000 to sponsor local community projects. Through Project – Service to Others (STO), Districts apply for individual projects that support local, national and international programs that often involve children and/or disadvantaged groups, to a maximum of $4,000 per project.

A provincial committee of RTO/ERO assesses the merit of each Project – STO submission according to established criteria, including level of member and District participation in the project.

Examples of types of projects receiving funding include: local heritage and culture projects, special arts and education programs for children, support for initiatives in developing countries, literacy and numeracy programs, and school day care for the children of single teenage mothers.

The District 4 Executive and Board are pleased that the Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society was selected to receive the full grant for this worthwhile project ...towards building a new community Kitchen in the Stable of the Anderson Farm Museum.

5th Annual Christmas Tree-Lighting

…A Magical Community Celebration at Anderson Farm Museum

On Dec. 10th, over 1,000 people joined us in Lively, for our 5th Annual Christmas Tree-Lighting at the Anderson Farm Museum. It was a magical community celebration of the Christmas Spirit!

On behalf of the Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society volunteer board, I would like to thank everyone who helped make our annual Christmas Tree-Lighting celebration such a success!

Invitation to Art/Craft VENDORS

The Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society 2011 Fall Fair Committee is busily organizing our Annual Fall Fair, which will take place on Saturday, September 10th, from 10am –4pm, at the Anderson Farm Museum, in Lively.

Last year, the weather cooperated and 4,000+ people attended our FREE community event. Hundreds of participants helped us host Fall Fair 2010, which was truly a CGS Fall Fair at the AFM! 50+ Vendors (arts, crafts, refreshment), 10 agri-producers (new Farmers Market area), community groups (activities, displays, demonstrations), owners of farm animals, entertainers, owners of antique vehicles, 100 volunteers and our Fall Fair Committee of 18 Volunteers came from communities throughout CGS: Beaver Lake, Coniston, Garson, Sudbury, Lively, Naughton, Penage Rd., , Long Lake, Val Therese , Whitefish plus Wahnapitae, Warren and Manitoulin Island.    

                                                                                               

This year we hope to make the Fall Fair bigger and better than 2010, with more Pens for small farm animals; the ‘Pulling for the Cure’ Tug-of-War Contest plus Sudbury District Kennel Club Dog Agility demonstrations in the Paddock; a larger Farmers’ Market area; Atikeneksheng Anishnawbek

Traditional Dancers, Drummers and Singers; more children’s activities, and demonstrations plus other new ideas proposed by our Fall Fair Committee.

We have also invited representatives from: the Greater Sudbury Police Service- Rural Response Unit, the Greater Sudbury Fire Department-Station 6 Volunteer Firemen and the Walden COP Program Volunteers to participate again.

There will be live performances from 10am – 4pm – on STAGE and the grassy area in front of the STAGE including: Sudbury Pipes & Drums, Atikeneksheng Anishnawbek Traditional Dancers & Drummers, Koralyssa Nisbet, The Tremonics, and the Northern Steel Pan Band to date.

The AFMHS 2011 Fall Fair Committee would like to invite you to be one of our Art/Craft VENDORS again this year, on Saturday, September 10th at the Anderson Farm Museum, from 10am – 4pm.

Vendors FEES will be $25 each and we will provide one 6’ table + 2 chairs per Vendor.

There is space inside the newly renovated Stable for 7 Vendors downstairs and 12 Vendors upstairs.  Space is allocated on a first-come first-served basis.

All Outdoor VENDORS must provide their own Tents or Sun Shelters or think about sharing space- if they don’t need a whole Tent/Sun Shelter.

Background Information:

In late January, 2011 the AFM Heritage Society was invited by the Ontario Historical Society to prepare a 750 word article- with a photo- focusing on AFMHS' success stories since incorporation in September,2007- for their February, 2011 OHS Bulletin.

As one of 350 Historical Societies in Ontario, and a relatively new member, this was an exciting opportunity for the AFMHS.

The theme of our AFMHS article for the Februrary OHS Bulletin was... " Long-Term Partnerships Make a Difference For the Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society!"

Today, I received a Press Release from Andrea Izzo, PHS Bulletin Editor about our AFMHS article and the exciting news that it would be included - as a good news story- in a OHS promotional package to be given to the Minister of Northern Development, on Monday, March 7th.

Long-Term Partnerships Make a Difference For the Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society!

On September 22, 2007, The Anderson Farm Museum and Heritage Society (AFMHS) was incorporated as a not-for-profit historical corporation in the Province of Ontario through affiliation with The Ontario Historical Society.

Three years later, the AFMHS has had a banner year, hosting a media conference on June 2nd to announce the major renovations to the stable; the 2nd Annual „Rock the Farm‟ Summer Series of four free concerts; the 4th Annual Fall Fair and Farmers Market, attended by over 4,000; and the 4th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration, attended by over 1,000! AFM also recruited 3 new members to work on its volunteer board. The 14-acre Anderson Farm Museum (AFM) is bordered by subdivisions, a school and Regional Rd. 24 in Lively and is becoming one of the busiest sites in Walden (Sudbury West)!

These successful events would not have been possible without enthusiastic, long-term partnerships with our Ward 2 Councilor, City of Greater Sudbury (CGS) Mayor and Council, the Greater Sudbury Museums, CGS staff and our business, community, and media partners. Key partner and sponsor Ward 2 Councilor, Jacques Barbeau continues to advocate for the protection and preservation of the AFM and the development and expansion of programs and activities on-site, work closely with the AFMHS to support and sponsor its projects and free community events.

AFMHS‟ key communications partner continues to be the Walden Community Action Network (CAN) – sharing information in their newsletter (3 issues mailed to 4,800 homes) on their website www.walden-can.com, in their weekly e-update and in their monthly column in The Sudbury Star. The Ontario Historical Society February 2011

Significant improvements have been made at the AFM over the last 3 years thanks to funding provided by the CGS and the carpentry of the Walden Seniors Woodworkers. Improvements included replacement of the cedar shingles on the roof of the barn and the farm house; minor repairs to Creighton Log Cabin; the replacement of windows in the farm house and the construction of display units for the loft of the barn.

Winterizing the stable was one of the recommendations in the 2006 Final Report of the Walden-CAN Heritage Committee presented to CGS and has been advocated by the AFM Heritage Society since forming in early 2007. The 2010 "Stage One" renovations to the stable will have a dramatic impact on the development of year-round programs, family fun activities, special events, workshops, fairs etc available for communities of Walden and residents of CGS at the AFM. The stable could become a hub for community activities. The next steps are to upgrade the washrooms; complete the kitchen area and begin "Stage Two" renovations to the top floor.

AFM‟s key community partners continue to be the Walden Seniors Woodworkers. From their workshop located in the Granary, they volunteer their time, skills and talent year-round at the AFM making minor repairs to buildings on-site; constructing „period‟ windows to replace those damaged by dry rot in farm house; rebuilding the Copper Cliff Dairy Wagon; repairing the paddock and building display and storage units for the loft of the Barn – totaling thousands of hours of service donated to AFM. In addition, they volunteer to help the AFMHS at community events!

As a small board of nine volunteers, business and community partners are vital to the success of the free community events at the AFM. Community groups, artists, craftsmen, performers, agricultural, environmental and health organizations, service clubs, schools, seniors and youth groups, firefighters, police and individuals – from Walden & CGS –volunteer their time, skills and talents. Donations in-kind and cash donations from local businesses and corporations help ensure that our community events are free for everyone. Additionally, new community partners allowed for the expansion of the 4th Annual Fall Fair.

With limited funds, free promotional opportunities are essential to tell the story of the AFM in Walden, the CGS and throughout northeast Ontario. Media partners who include CTV News, East Link News, Northern Life & The Sudbury Star share news, prepare feature articles, attend events and tell this story over and over. The Massey Agricultural Society plans to bring more small pens and more small farm animals to the Fair; the Walden Art Club is expanding their „hands-on‟ art/craft activities in the log cabin; the Walden Ladies Slo-Pitch League has asked to hold their „Pulling For The Cure‟ tug-of-war event in the paddock (120 players + firefighters, police, paramedic teams) and new board member, Darryl Orser, singer/songwriter/musician, is chairing the „Rock the Farm‟ Series, with one more concert in June and more performers than ever.

The Greater Sudbury Heritage Museums

Presents Celebrating March Break at the Museum.

During the March Break, the City of Greater Sudbury Heritage Museums will be hosting a free workshop on how to make crafts from the past for children ages 6 and up.

Crafts of bygone days were very simple and made by hand with whatever material was available. Use your imagination to decorate an old sock with buttons, yarn or material to make your puppet unique.  Learn how to have fun with paper. Maybe make a paper sailor hat!

This workshop will be held on Tuesday March 15 and again on Thursday March 17, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 pm in the Stable Building at the Anderson Farm Museum on Highway 24 in Lively. 

Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.  Registration is required as space is limited.  Please register online at:  www.sudbury.library.on.ca.  Click on the Programs and Event Calendar and choose the day of the preferred session.

New Champion Giant Pumpkin Growers in 2010

WAHNAPITAE – The Giant Pumpkins have been weighed (using an internationally approved measuring scale), the final weights are recorded and the 2010 Senior and Junior Champions can be announced.

Senior Champion Grower Jeff Warner brought his giant pumpkin to the New Liskeard Fall Fair where it weighed in at 636 lb.

Also in New Liskeard, Hal Brown’s giant pumpkin weighing 613 lb won second place.

From Desbarats’s Farmers’ Market comes the Giant Pumpkin grown by Siegfried Hecker, weighing in at 573 lb. Mr. Hecker was the 2009 Champion Grower.

The first, second and third place winning pumpkins were all bigger than the existing champion weight of 522 ½ lb, set in 2008.

In 4th place is Ron Lewis’s Giant Pumpkin weighing 267 lb and entered at the Lively Fall Fair.

Junior Champion Grower Miriam Desjardin brought her 495 lb Giant Pumpkin to the New Liskeard Fall Fair.

Quinn Coker from the Central Manitoulin Public School Fall Fair grew a 238 lb pumpkin, making him the runner up Champion Grower, while in third place was the giant pumpkin grown by New Liskeard’s Zachary Lafferrier whose pumpkin weighed 219 lb..

Five entry sites in Northern Ontario included Desbarats Farmer’s Market, the Central Algoma Exhibition in Bruce Mines, Fall Fair at Anderson Farm Museum in Lively, Central Manitoulin Public School’s Fall Fair in Mindemoya and the New Liskeard Fall Fair making this the largest competition to date.

The Anderson Farm Fall Fair has grown over the past few years, and according to Gwen Doyle, co-chair of the 2010 fall fair committee, it looks like the fair will be even bigger this year. “We have more arts, crafts, food vendors and displays than ever,” she said. “The participants have doubled this year. By that, I mean the people that are providing the fair.”
The Lively farm will also host more animals in the petting zoos than before, and some new attractions like a farmers market and live entertainment. “It’s exciting that most of the brainstorming ideas we had have been translated into new activities and projects,” Doyle said.

Along with the new sights and sounds, the annual fall fair will also feature a display from the Walden Art Club and the Sudbury Weavers and Spinners. Members of the 2964 Walden Irish Army Cadets will be on hand to keep traffic moving, too.
Doyle said vendors have come from places like Sault Ste. Marie, Massey and Manitoulin Island to participate in the fair. “It’s really a Greater Sudbury event,” she said.
The fair is taking place on Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. with an opening ceremony presentation by the Sudbury Pipes and Drums and the Whitefish Lake First Nations Traditional Dancers and Drummers.
Doyle said the fair is free for the whole family to attend. “If you want to go and not spend anything, you’re free to do that,” she said. For more information about the fair,

THE GREATER SUDBURY HERITAGE MUSEUMS Presents Free Weaving and Spinning Demonstrations
Weaving is a way of making cloth by crossing threads over and under one another. Many kinds of cloth and most blankets, clothing, and rugs are woven. Weavers often use a machine called a loom to help them weave. A spinning wheel is used to spin fiber into yarn or thread. It consists of a large wheel and a spindle set on a frame. Spinning was first used in the production of simple ropes, cords and fishing lines and, later, to create yarns. Come out to the Anderson Farm Museum, on Highway 24 in Lively for free weaving and spinning demonstrations every Tuesday from August 3rd to August 24th . Drop in between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to see how it is all done.

Renovated Stable at The Anderson Farm Museum

…A Dream Come True for AFM Heritage Society!

The AFM Heritage Society volunteers were excited when we heard the news

in February that CGS Council had approved funding for major Renovations to

the Stable at the Anderson Farm Museum! It was a dream come true for AFM

Heritage Society volunteers, community groups and residents of Walden.

Renovations to the Stable to permit year-round activities, special events

and programs at the AFM has been a discussed since Walden was a Town.

Winterizing the Stable was one of the KEY Recommendations in the 2006

Final Report of the Walden-CAN Heritage Committee presented to CGS and

has been advocated by the AFM Heritage Society since forming in early 2007.

Significant improvements have been made at the AFM over the last 3

years thanks to the support of Councilor Jacques Barbeau, Mayor John

Rodriguez & Council and Ron Henderson, Director of Libraries & Citizen

Services. Ie Replacement of the cedar shingles on the Roof of the Barn and

the Farm House; minor repairs to Creighton Log Cabin; the replacement of

windows in the Farm House and the construction of Display Units for the Loft

of the Barn

Renovated Stable…a Dream Come True!

“…The 2010 renovations to the Stable will have a dramatic impact on the

development of year-round programs, family fun activities, special events,

workshops, fairs etc available for communities of Walden and residents of

CGS at the AF…The Stable could become a Hub for community activities.”

ANDERSON FARM MUSEUM (AFM) STABLE RENOVATIONS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 25, 2010

The Anderson Farm Museum received approval for funding from the City of Greater Sudbury

City Council (approved in February 2010) for a major renovation project to winterize the

stable at the farm.

Winterizing the stable, which was originally built in 1985, will provide the public with a

facility that can be used year‐round instead of only in the summer.

The AFM stable will be available to the public for uses such as public meetings,

demonstrations, workshops, lectures and special events. The stable can fit seating for up to

80 people.

Renovations have already begun and will be completely early July 2010.

The AFM Heritage Society has provided help in supporting and planning for this project and

hope that this will encourage more people and attract more activities to the site.

Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society

…Celebrating a Dream Come True, 3 years of achievements

and New Community Partners & Sponsors for 2010!

On June 2, the Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society (AFMHS) shared the

exciting news about the CGS renovating the Stable- a dream come true,

celebrated the contributions of our Community Partners & Sponsors and

officially launched our 2010 Fundraising Campaign at a Media Conference in

the Loft of the Barn at the Anderson Farm Museum (AFM). Mayor Rodriguez,

Councilor Barbeau, CGS Staff, our volunteers and some of our Community

Partners & Sponsors joined us for this celebration!

A winterized Stable is a dream come true, for the AFMHS and community

groups in Walden. Everyone was excited about the significant impact the

renovated Stable will have on year-round educational programs and arts,

cultural and family activities at the AFM! Kerry Mitchell & Ron Nadjiwan of the

Walden Art Club can’t wait to organize art workshops and exhibits and Pat

Marcotte of Northern Ontario Agri-Food looks forward to having Northern

Maple (the Cow) and other agri-educational workshops in the Stable- other

than in summer months. Our AFMHS’ volunteers are thrilled that the Stable

will be ready in time for the Fall Fair and available for year-round activities!

Over the past 3 years, our small Board of 8 volunteers has hosted annual

FREE Community Events at the AFM: ‘Rock the Farm’ - our Summer Series of

4 FREE Concerts, the FALL Fair in September and our Christmas Tree-

Lighting Celebration in December. Mary Barr, Chair-AFMHS explained that

“…None of this would be possible without the continued support of the CGS,

Greater Sudbury Museums, Councilor Jacques Barbeau, the Walden Seniors &

Pensioners and Woodworkers and our Community Partners & Sponsors…Our

goal is for everyone -in Walden & CGS- to enjoy all the farm and the

museum has to offer.”

The numbers of participants at our FREE Community Events are almost

doubling each year. In 2009 2,000+ people participated in our Fall Fair and

over 1,000 people attended our Christmas Tree-Lighting event. People of all

ages – in Walden & CGS – are joining us for special events at the Anderson

Farm Museum.

Our 2010 Fall Fair will be bigger & better than ever thanks to the new ideas

developed by our Fall Fair Committee and new Community Partnerships – in

Walden and the CGS. Gwen Doyle, Co-Chair, Fall Fair Committee introduced

just 3 of our new Community Partnerships:

“…Eat Local Sudbury/Farm ON Alliance, Market Square and NO Agri-Food are

coordinating our new Farmers’ Market Area…The Massey Agricultural Society

are bringing & setting up 5 of their small Pens for our miniature goats,

sheep, calf etc and having a Display and The St. Johns’ Ambulance ‘Therapy

Dogs’ & The Sudbury & District Kennel Club which will offer a ‘Bite Free’

Presentation in the Barn, have displays and Dog Agility Demonstrations in the

Paddock…plus more new activities for the whole family!”

With expanded activities we have increased expenses and the AFMHS needs

new Sponsors in 2010 to help us host our Summer Series of 4 FREE

Concerts, our Fall Fair and to help rebuild the Paddock. During our 2010

Fundraising Campaign we are reaching out to industry, financial institutions,

businesses and the general public and asking them to consider being one of

our Community Sponsors. Our Goal is to raise $10,000.00

Magical Christmas         Celebration at Anderson Farm Museum

…Thanks to all our Sponsors         & Community PARTNERS and 1,000 Participants!

Dec. 12th         was a magical winter night - perfect for a community celebration         of the Christmas Spirit! Almost 1,000 people packed the site for our 3rd         Annual Christmas Tree-Lighting at the Anderson Farm Museum. 

   “… Thanks to the enthusiastic         support of Ward 2 Councilor- Jacques Barbeau, the CGS, the Greater         Sudbury Museums, all our Business Sponsors and Community PARTNERS and         the 1,000 people who joined us… it was another magical Christmas         Celebration at the Anderson Farm Museum!”

Santa Claus was the first Special Guest to arrive -         followed closely by Mayor John Rodriguez and Walden Firemen, Paul Roy         and Jack Parry- with their Fire Truck and surprise Guests: Ward 8         Councilor- Ted Callaghan and MPP France Gelinas.  The site soon         filled-up with families, school choirs, student volunteers and people of         all ages!

By 6:30pm everyone had gathered in front of the Christmas         Tree and the decorated Copper Cliff Dairy Wagon- for the Official         Christmas Tree-Lighting Ceremony.  After Christmas Greetings from Mayor         Rodriguez, Councilor Barbeau and AFMHS Chair- Mary Barr, Santa and 4         year old Paige Kultalahti lit-up the huge Christmas Tree.         

MC Forbes Stoodley kept things moving smoothly. 3 School         Choirs each performed 3 songs:           Ecole St. Paul-         Vive Le Vent, Sainte Nuit and Au royaume du bonhomme d'hiver;         St. James School-                  The Friendly Beasts and Silent Night and          LDSS Hawks-                  Carolers-          Jingle Bells, Rudolph and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Then LDSS         Principal Judy Noble led some community caroling- followed by a         nostalgic Christmas story sung by LDSS Hawk- Jessica Lopatka –with her         guitar.

Inside the Stable LDSS Hawks and         AFMHS volunteers were kept busy serving free hot chocolate, Christmas         cookies and candy canes, while people checked out the Vintage Toys and         kids visited with Santa. The toy displays were a big hit – with some         over 60 years old – including a 10’ long wooden toboggan & an old 1942         Teddy Bear. People commented on ET, Star Wars, Six Million Dollar Man,         Wonder Woman, Mama doll, wagons, vintage train cars and the Tonka Toy         construction equipment- including the Mighty Grader, Mighty Tonka Shovel         and Mighty Tonka Scraper.

“…Thanks to everyone who brought         donations of non-perishable food for the Walden Food Bank. (The extra         boxes of Voortman Christmas cookies were also donated)…And Thanks to         everyone who contributed to our Silver Collection. And in the Granary 6 of Santa’s         Helpers had antique toys and Christmas crafts on display and goodies to         hand out too. Kids were playing games with an antique electric train set         and an old wooden hockey game. Parents were more interested in the         machinery.

The weather was perfect- a winter         wonderland! Kids and many adults too were sliding and playing in the         snow on the hill by the Barn. Kids got to sit up in the Fire Truck and         have their pictures taken with Walden Volunteer Fireman/Walden Seniors         Woodworker- Jack Parry. Families lined up for FREE horse-drawn wagon         rides through the Farm, down to the T.M. Davies Arena and back. Friends         and families stood around talking and laughing. And Santa took the time         to visit everyone!

…Is an Authentic, Old, Finn Sauna!

        All the Anderson Farm Museum & Heritage Society wants for Christmas …is         an authentic, old, Finn Sauna!         Several years ago, the original Finn Sauna - at the Anderson Farm         Museum- was burned down by vandals. Since then Curator, Jim Fortin and         our AFMHS Board have been searching for a replacement unsuccessfully.        If anyone has an authentic, old Finn Sauna which which could be         re-located to the Anderson Farm Museum, please contact either Curator         Jim Fortin at 692-4448 or Mary Barr, Chair-AFMHS at 586-2611        It would be wonderful to have an authentic, old Finn Sauna on Site again         at the Anderson Farm Museum – in time for student tours in 2010!

 

The Anderson Farm Museum & Heritage Society         3rd Annual Christmas Tree-Lighting         December 12th 6 –8pm         Last year, our real old-fashioned community event at the Anderson Farm         Museum was a huge success! The site was packed- with over 600 people!
        Everyone gathered in front of the Christmas Tree and the Firemen’s         Christmas Float at 6pm. After the official Christmas Tree Lighting –          with Mayor Rodriguez, Councilor Barbeau and Chair AFM&HS Les Burford, 3         School Choirs each performed 3 songs: Ecole St. Paul – Mon beau sapin,         Il est ne le devin enfant and Saint Nuit; George Vanier PS- Jingle         Bells, Santa is Coming to Town and Rudolph and Jessie Hamilton PS –          Felix Navidad, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree and Do They Know it’s         Christmas. Next on the program were the CGS Firemen’s Choir and         community caroling. Everyone joined in – kids and adults climbed up on         the Float to sing with the Firemen’s Choir.
        Inside the Stable volunteers were kept busy serving free hot chocolate,         cookies and candies, while people checked out the Vintage Toys and kids         visited with Santa. Thanks to everyone who brought donations of food for         the Walden Food Bank. (Boxes of extra cookies will also be donated) And         in the Granary Santa’s Helpers had toys and Christmas crafts on display         and goodies to hand out too.
        The snow fell gently all evening- a winter wonderland! Kids were sliding         and playing in the snow banks. Families lined up for rides with the         Wagon Wheel Ranch team. Friends and families stood around talking &         laughing. And Santa took the time to visit everyone!

Curator’s         Report to Anderson Farm Museum and Heritage Society
        Sept. 28, 2009        Mission Statement of the City of Greater Sudbury Heritage Museums
        It is the Mission of The Greater Sudbury Heritage Museums to collect,         preserve and presents the diverse culture of the Sudbury Basin
        Anderson Farm Events/Activities:        1) Much of the month has been spent setting up for and taking down and         cleaning after events. Fall Fair, Creighton Reunion, LUL student         teachers, Water Festival.
        2) In preparation for the opening of the Time Capsule, scans were done         of all material and protective sleeves provided to be able to show the         material without damage.
        3) The first meeting for Sudbury Mining Week 2010 has been held and an         opportunity to have a mining equipment show on site is a possibility.         The committee could participate with a BBQ and have an information         brochure about projects.
        4) At the Creighton Reunion event we sold about $ 200.00 worth of books         etc. Three buildings were open. Attendees were able to watch a volunteer         weave, a tape of the 1989 original Reunion, a slideshow of Creighton         photos, and tour the Creighton Log cabin. There is an interest in         holding it at the museum again.
        5) From the reunion we have had an interest in a family reunion to be         held on site next June and received a number of photographs and         artifacts from Creighton.
        6) Twelve students from LUL School for Continuing Education toured the         museum.
        7) The Water Festival was a great success. In all 1200 students took         part.
        8) Jim will be meeting with the Fire Chief and Fire safety officer and         the councilor on wed. Sept. 30 @ 9:00 AM to discuss uses for the loft of         the main barn.
        9) Sept. 30th will also be the last day for the Talking Tipi Program.
        10) Grant Reports are being completed for students who worked for the         museum this season.        Up Coming items:
        a) Doors Open Sat. Oct. 3rd. 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM – log cabin will be         open with Mrs. Prusila and Elsie in attendance.
        b) Our ministry consultant will be touring the museums Friday Oct. 2nd.        
        c) Jim will be off Oct. 8 – 19th.
        d) It is anticipated that the renovated Azilda Library / Museum site         will be opening in November.         Attendance

The Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society/FALL FAIR Committee would         like to express our sincere appreciation to everyone who helped make our         Annual FALL FAIR at the Anderson Farm Museum such an overwhelming         success! We estimate 2,000 people (from 5 weeks old to 80+) came out         to enjoy our FREE Community Event on that perfect, sunny day!
150 Participants helped us Host FALL FAIR-2009: This year was truly a         CGS FALL FAIR at the Anderson Farm Museum! Our         arts/crafts/refreshment vendors, community groups         (activities/displays/demonstrations), owners of farm animals,         entertainers, owners of antique vehicles, student volunteers and Fall         Fair Committee Volunteers came from communities throughout CGS:         Coniston, Garson, Sudbury, Lively, Naughton, Penage Rd., Long Lake, Val         Therese, Wahnapitae, Warren and Whitefish.

Our Entertainers on STAGE: Jamie Byron, Tremonics, Northern         Gypsie and Finnot –who added to the country fair atmosphere of the day         and had us tapping our toes and singing along ! Our MC Forbes Stoodley         (Walden-CAN)- who kept things moving smoothly all day. And Steve of         Alison Sound –who ensured perfect sound for all performers!
        Dale Pepin with ‘Story Socks’…who entertained the kids from 11-Noon and         the Taoist Tai Chi Society… for their demonstration on the grass

        Sudbury Weavers & Spinners Guild- who demonstrated in the Farm House-         spinner-Margot Poitras, finger weaver - Pauline Newlands, and Airlie         Suutari demonstrating on the Root Loom
        Our 24 Walden Seniors and Pensioners in BBQ/Refreshment Area- who         picked-up the propane BBQ, food, refreshments, condiments, utensils and         ice etc; cooked/served food; sold Tickets and cleaned up etc This was a         huge undertaking because of the larger crowds this year and the heat!         Doug Pappin, John Robson. Town of Walden Time Capsule Opening         Background In 1984 the Province of Ontario was celebrating its         Bi-centennial. Across the province towns and cities were encouraged to         celebrate our community and our Province. The Town of Walden did it in a         big way.         A Bi-centennial committee was struck and drew up a list of activities         which would take place throughout the year.         Members of the Bi-Centennial Committee were drawn from many groups         across the community included:         Bob Boudignon: Anderson Farm Heritage Project Advisory Committee.         Karen Makela, Walden Parks Dept.         June Kent: Waters Women's Institute.         Stan Savarie: Walden Winter Carnival – lead on the Time Capsule project.         Paul Vanzutphen: Summer Festival Committee         Gene Roy: Lively Legion         Jim Fortin: Anderson farm site supervisor         Ron Capstick: Winter Carnival committee / Summer Festival Committee         Bill Horrick; Walden Senior Citizens         Jim Haddow: Summer Fesdtival Committee
        Among the activities undertaken by the committee was the establishment         of a Town of Walden Time capsule.         Businesses, Groups and Organizations from across the community were         invited to place items into a time capsule which would be sealed in         Sunday June 23rd, during the official opening of the Anderson farm         Museum. The capsule has resided at the Anderson Farm Museum since that         time.         The capsule was to be opened by the sitting Mayor in December of 2009,         and added to and re-sealed for another 25 years, for re-opening in 2035.         The contents of the Capsule will be available for viewing during the         Anderson Farm Museum and Historical Society’s Fall Fair on Sept. 12,         2009.         By E-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. Copper Cliff         Dairy Milk Wagon Restoration Complete!         The Anderson Farm Museum and Heritage Society would like to thank all of         the Businesses and Volunteers who have donated- either their money,         materials and/or labour to restore the Copper Cliff Dairy Milk Wagon. Mission Statement of the City of Greater Sudbury Heritage Museums

Anderson Farm         Events/Activities:

 

        1)                               Sudbury District Beaveree: May 9th 8 – 3:30. Went very well         despite cold weather.

        2)                               Lively High grade 10 class: Home Life in the 1920’s -30’s. May 12th.         Went well

3)              Lively High         Reunion: May 16th. Poor weather kept people close to the school and         the arena. We had about 24 visitors. Made contact with two women who         have family connections with O’Donnell. They promised to send photos of         the town site.

4)              The WaterTownship Lions Club Volunteer         Recruitment Fair: May 23rd. The organizers were pleased. But         there could have been more support from the public. Jim made a contact         for a new to us sauna.

 

5)              A soap stone         carving workshop went well. There were five participants and the         instructor. Many visitors took advantage of the opportunity to see how         soap stone carving is done.

6)              Maple the Cow         will be visiting the museum from Monday June 8th to Friday         June 19th: 350 – 400 students booked in. Copper Cliff Dairy         will be donating milk for each of the students.

        7)                       Grant applications:         Partial subsidy grants for 5 students have been approved. Approved 3         positions from Young Canada Works in Heritage, 2 positions approved from         Canada Summer Jobs.

8)              Energy assessment will be redone in the         granary workshop. We added some fixtures so we can take advantage of the         full amount of the grant.

9)              Laurentian Women’s Alumni touring May 14th.         This went very well. One of the women is the daughter of W. S. Gemell.         Welland Stewart Gemmell, MPP (Sudbury) From the Walden area, his family         ran a store near the Reserve. Minister of Lands and Forests - June 03,         1952 - June 18, 1954, Minister of Mines May 04, 1949 - June 03, 1952.         She will be contacting the archivist and donating her father’s papers to         the archives.

Up Coming items:

                 i.                    St. Peter’s United Church picnic: May 31st.         60 people – service in the stable – picnic and games.

               ii.                    Talking Tipi program will return. Foster         Parent training session June 10th. Program start in July.        

              iii.                    The museum’s portable electrical panel has         been reconditioned by Tait electric and is now available for events.

             iv.                    German language school picnic June 7th.

               v.                    Work has begun on the new exhibit nooks. The         themes will include laundry, hand tools, butter churns,

             vi.                    Jim will be meeting with the principals at         George Vanier and Jessie Hamilton to see what material can be saved from         the schools for the museum or the archives.

            vii.                    Walden youth for youth fundraising BBQ will         be held at the Farm June 19th 4-7. The group will start         weaving mats and shoulder bags on the small loom in the farm house a         percentage of the revenues from items woven will come back to the Farm.

Sudbury Crafts and Arts Foundation (SCARF).         6) Maple the Cow will be visiting the museum from Monday June 8th to         Friday June 19th: 350 – 400 students booked in. Copper Cliff Dairy will         be donating milk for each of the students.
        7) Grant applications: no update. Students begin May 5th.         8) Centennial of Flight in Canada: Radio control group needs an         authorized field.         9) Energy assessment was conducted in the granary workshop. We will be         able to change all fluorescents on the main floor and relocate/add         additional fixtures.         10) Modifications to the doors in the loft of the barn are complete.

b. Oct. 3rd only - Doors Open Sudbury         2009. I will be looking for volunteers to man the Creighton log cabin.         The log cabin will be the focus of the visits on that day.
        Other Items of Interest.
        The Provincial Heritage plaque to go up on 144 has arrived and will be         presented at the Mining Week lunch on May 4th.

Copper Cliff Dairy Wagon…Newly         Restored at Anderson Farm Museum!
        After years of dedicated service to the community delivering milk to         hundreds of homes over many decades the Copper Cliff dairy milk wagon         found itself cast aside in favour of new motor driven delivery trucks.        
        Finally donated to Anderson Farm Museum and was put on display outside         in the field. Eventually it began to deteriorate. Its tires were         rotting, the wheels sinking into the ground, the paint peeling off the         tin, the wood rotting away and the steel rusting. Subject to the hot sun         in the summer and the cold blistering winds and snow in the winter it         was only a matter of time before it was only fit for the landfall site.
        It was then a group of individuals decided to try and save this icon         from the past.
        The men at the Walden Seniors Pensioners Workshop took on the project of         trying to rebuild and restore this piece of history. Salvaging what they         could of the original wagon they enlisted the help of local businesses         and individuals and started to fabricate a new wagon. A frame was         donated by Talevi Welding ; sandblasting by Morins; hardware and dried         Ash were donated by Jacques Barbeau. New braces were cut and fitted.
        With funding for new flooring, sides and roof coming from Copper Cliff         Dairy, Greater City of Sudbury and the Anderson Farm Site committee the         wagon began to take shape.
        After over 225 hours of work the wagon is almost fully completed.
        With Blue Moon Graphics recreating the exact colours and script on the         sides only the final painting of the roof remains and that will have to         wait until the weather gets warmer.
        Our Goal is to have the newly restored the Copper Cliff Dairy Wagon         ready for the summer activities at the AFM.
        Its uses could be many. It has been suggested that the Copper Cliff         Dairy Wagon could be used for: the annual LDSS Food Drive, the Greater         Sudbury Fireman’s Food Collection at Battistellis, the Santa Claus         Parade and of course to pull children around at the annual Fall Fair.         And most important - It will once again become a valuable exhibit in the         Barn at the Anderson Farm Museum.

Mission Statement of The City of Greater Sudbury Heritage Museums

It is the Mission of The         Greater Sudbury Heritage Museums to collect, preserve and present the         diverse culture of the Sudbury Basin

Anderson Farm Events/Activities:

 

        1)                               Sudbury District Beaverie: May 9th 8 – 3:30. They just need         access to the site- Super Heroes theme.

2)              Lively         High Reunion: Jim is preparing an exhibit of the early days of Lively to run during         the reunion on the 16th of May.

3)              The Water         Township Lions club have requested the use of the farm site for a         volunteer fair on May 23rd. e-mail; attached.

4)              Jim has a         letter from Walden Mayor Charles White, dated June 23rd 1985         addressed to the Mayor Dec. 15th 2009. The letter provides         instructions to open the time capsule in the stable. Discussion and         ideas?

5)              Maple the Cow         will be visiting the museum from Monday June 8th to Friday         June 19th. A flier has gone out to all the schools. –          attached.

        6)                       Jim has submitted grant         applications for summer students. Results should come in by the end of         April.

        7)                       Contacts for Centennial         of Flight in Canada activity have not responded as yet.” Possible

Anderson Farm other things.

a.               On March 31st. a history class         from Laurentian university will be visiting the Farm. Jim visited the         class at the university on Jan. 27th with artifacts and a         presentation on kitchen tools. The students will be focusing on the         kitchen and its artifacts.

b.              The roofing project is complete. A grounds         clean up will happen in the spring once the snow is gone and bodies are         available.

c.               We will have an energy assessment on April          22nd. This will provide us with ideas and options to improve         our use of electricity and may lead to a rebate.

d.              The milk wagon project is basically         complete. Some painting to be done and changing the height of the door         so they can get it out.

        Maple the Cow will be visiting the Anderson Farm Museum from
        June 13th to June 19th, 2009 .         A project of Northern Ontario Agri-Food Education, Maple is a full size         model of a cow. She gives "milk" and even "moos". This hands on exhibit         will be accompanied by an Agri-food educator and the Northern Ontario         Agri-Food display “From Hay... to Milk.... to You”. Magical Winter Night at         Anderson Farm Museum

Dec. 13th was a magical         winter night - perfect for a community celebration of the Christmas         Spirit! Almost 600 people participated in the 2nd Annual         Christmas Tree Lighting at the Anderson Farm Museum.

Everyone gathered in front of the         Christmas Tree and the Firemen’s Christmas Float at 6pm. After the         official Christmas Tree Lighting – with Mayor Rodriguez, Councilor         Barbeau and Chair AFM&HS Les Burford, 3 School Choirs each performed 3         songs:  Ecole St. Paul – Mon beau sapin, Il est ne le devin enfant and         Saint Nuit; George Vanier PS- Jingle Bells, Santa is Coming to Town and         Rudolph and Jessie Hamilton PS – Felix Navidad, Rockin’ Around the         Christmas Tree and Do They Know it’s Christmas.  Next on the program         were the CGS Firemen’s Choir and community caroling. Everyone joined in          – kids and adults climbed up on the Float to sing with the Firemen’s         Choir.

Inside the Stable volunteers were         kept busy serving free hot chocolate, cookies and candies, while people         checked out the Vintage Toys and kids visited with Santa.  Thanks to         everyone who brought donations of food for the Walden Food Bank. (Boxes         of extra cookies will also be donated) And in the Granary Santa’s         Helpers had toys and Christmas crafts on display and goodies to hand out         too.

The snow fell gently all evening- a         winter wonderland! Kids were sliding and playing in the snow banks.         Families lined up for rides with the Wagon Wheel Ranch team. Friends and         families stood around talking & laughing. And Santa took the time to         visit everyone!

        Treasurer’s Report: Mary,         Final financial statement on Fall Fair.         Motion: Mary, second Sheila, that Treasurer’s Report be accepted as         read. Cd.
        Correspondence: Les.         Email from Jacques re. Professional fundraiser, Daniel Gingras, wanting         to set up a meeting with him. We need to know how this service would be         paid for. Also need to know his credentials, see his resume, etc. Les         will contact him to determine how much time is needed for his         presentation, and set up the meeting.
        Curator’s Report: Jim, copy attached.         Attendance figures are up from last year. Jim will be off on vacation in         December, and parts of November.         Moved by Jim, seconded by Lynn, to accept the report. Cd.
        Old Business:
        Reg sent his report re. Christmas decorations: Additional wiring that is         required will be done by Tait Electric. They have offered their truck         for putting up & taking down the lights on buildings. Lonnie at Home         Hardware will sell us the lights for $9.00/box. Jim requested that the         lights come down from the trees and buildings after the event.
        December 6 is when we will decorate the stable building. Lynn’s tree and         ornaments are still available. The tree-lighting event is December 13.         Reg had suggested covering the openings to the upstairs of the stable         building, to keep the heat downstairs.
        We will need a further meeting re. the Christmas Tree Lighting plans. We         will again be selling the paper lights for $1.00 each; money will go to         buying more lights. A student needing community service hour will cut         them out.
        Action Item List:         Walking Trail: A quote and sketch from the woodworkers went to Deb         McIntosh; it will go into the 2009 budget. Sheila spoke about “Murmur”,          a trail information package that would be ideal for the trail.
        Provincial Marker: Sheila can’t get the quote until she has the final         wording. It will be translated into Finnish and French.
        Barn roof: The east side is done. They will probably be unable to         complete the farmhouse before winter.
        Barn loft displays: Brian will get prices on wood for Claire. Estimate         of $1250 required for the floor. He will get prices on plywood for the         remaining display units. Brian instructed to buy all material now.
        Copper Cliff wagon: dismantled. Chassis is out for sandblasting. A steel         frame will be made (probably without charge) which will make it         stronger, but it should look the same. Jim suggested a latching door for         safety, when taking children for rides. Brian mentioned a railing could         be put in, for the same purpose. Blue Moon will do a lot of the         painting.
        The committee discussed ways of recognising people or groups who donate         in some way to the AFM. A board could be designed listing sponsors, with         plaques and/or photos of them. They could be presented with         certificates, and sent letters of thanks. When the museum opens in May,         an event (possibly a BBQ) can be held to acknowledge these people.
        A garage/storage shed will be moved here from Waters Cemetery, for our         garden shed. Ron will have it moved here. It is 12’ x 20’. It was         discussed that moving it should be put off until spring. There was also         a discussion of the possibility of renting out a portion of the space to         the kennel club, who would like to use the corral for dog competitions.         This would have to be approved by the city, as there are issues with         insurance, etc.
        New Business:
        1. There was a mention of building outside light bulbs that needed to be         replaced.
        2. Next year is the 20th Anniversary of the Creighton Reunion. We could         see if they would like to put on an event at the Farm.
        3. Terms ending soon: Brian, Les, and Lynn. Lynn mentioned health         reasons for not continuing. We also have another opening. Interested         people should submit a letter of application.
        4. Community input meeting, Wed., Nov. 12, 7:00 – 9:00p.m.at the Kinsmen         Hall. Jim will put it on the sign by the road, Mary will check at the         library about the arena sign.
        Meeting Nov. 10 at the Craft room to go over what needs to be done for         the Wed. public meeting.

2 Winterize Stable Ron/Claire

5 Barn Roof             Replacement Ron

            1.                  $ 10/sq.ft to replace re-shingle roof. Ed Vildas is to be contacted             to begin tendering process.

10 Copper Cliff             Dairy Wagon Reg

            1.                  Copper Cliff Dairy has agreed to pay cost of material.

            2.                  Wagon is stored in the stable. Work on refurbishing wagon deferred             until the fall.

            3.                  Tires will be inflated so wagon can be moved out of the Stable as             required.

            4.                  To be made mobile by inflating the tires

            5.                  Dismantling the wagon has started.

            6.                  Copper Cliff Dairy wagon has been dismantled and materials being             ordered. Presently located in the Barn loft. The Chassis has been             sent out for sandblasting & painting. A channel frame will be built             & donated to attach the wooden structure to. A plaque to be made             listing & thanking the sponsors of the wagon rebuild. Blue Moon             Graphics will create stencils for the artwork and have suggested             using aluminum sheeting as opposed to galvanized sheeting.

11 Garden Shed Reg, Sheila

            1.                  Reg to contact lady who volunteered money for this project in 2006.             Reg & Les to visit. Sheila to chose site location.

13 Fordson Tractor Claire, Jim

            1.                  Claire said the City would provide the $500.00 transportation cost.             Reg wondered about winterizing unit so that it doesn’t freeze in the             winter. Jim is to inquire on whether it is winterized. Tractor can             be placed in the loft on exhibit when not operating.

            2.                  Fordson tractor is delivered and presently in the stable. Once the             milk wagon has been sent out for sandblasting & painting, the             tractor should be relocated to the barn loft.

14 Christmas             Lighting A.F.M. & H.S.

            1.                  Scheduled date is Saturday, December 13th. Eight hundred             dollars is being put aside towards this event by the A.F.M.& H.S.             Proposed purchase of additional lighting for i) east facing eaves of             the barn and north & south ends ii) south eves of milk shed.

2.                  Wiring for plug-in for Christmas tree lighting and 220 v.             plugs for four 220 v. heaters in stable scoped out with Jim, Steve             and Tait Electric. Tait Electric will use their bucket truck to             install the additional lights on the barn; farmhouse; windmill; and             Creighton house. Lonnie at Home Hardware will sell the lights at             cost approximately $ 9.00/box. Committee to set date for meeting to             plan this event.

SUDBURY MUSEUMS: The Greater Sudbury Heritage Museum, with the support of the 2008         Sudbury Mining Week Committee, is attempting to raise the necessary         funds to replace a Province of Ontario Provincial Heritage Marker that         marks the Discovery of the Sudbury Basin and rich mineral deposits that         resulted in the development of the City of Greater Sudbury.
        With funds provided by the Sudbury Mining Week Committee, Heritage         Museums has published a previously unreleased collection of six         postcards featuring images of Sudbury area miners between 1904 and 1924.         All proceeds of the sales of postcards will go towards replacing the         Heritage Marker.

        NEW BUSINESS:         A presentation by Kerry Mitchell and Ron Nadjiwon from Walden Art Club,         regarding the Mural Mosaic of the Anderson Farm barn. WAC donated the         mural to the AFMHS, proceeds to go to the stable building renovations,         if the committee chose to accept it. The mural will be on display at Tom         Davies Square as of June 7, 2008 (for the 125th Anniversary         Celebrations) and for two weeks following (arranged by WAC). Ron         Henderson will see if he can get that extended for a longer period of         time.
        There was a discussion of having a media event at TD Square after the         7th of June, as an official handing over from WAC to AFMHS. Kerry         mentioned Channel 10 News is anxious to cover events involving the         mural, as they have been involved previously.
        Various ways of fundraising with the mural were discussed. WAC would         like to see it kept together and displayed at the Farm, is possible. It         is hoped that there may be corporate sponsors willing to “buy” the         mural, to display at the Farm, with their name displayed as sponsors. If         there is no corporate entity willing to sponsor the entire mural, the         possibility of selling sponsorships for individual canvases was         discussed. Brian will approach Vale Inco to see if they are interested.         Chris suggested a wine & cheese auction, if we can get a number of         corporate sponsors interested.

        Secretary’s Report: No correspondence.         Curator’s Report: Ron H. for Jim.         Ron will talk with Jim re. Scheduling the loft painting done, whether by         Walden Youth for Youth, or the woodworkers.
        Ron’s goals for the summer:         1. Roofs – Ron met with Ed Vildas. The entire barn & milk house, and the         main house will be done, starting within the next two weeks, at a cost         of $110,000.         2. Barn loft – A helper was hired for the maintenance man; a lot of         stuff was cleaned out of the loft. Exhibits will soon be organized,         along with the interpretation.         3. Stable building – looking at 2009 for the fundraising and lobbying,         and 2010 for the renovation. The electrical improvements to the stable         will be done this year.         4. Fall Fair – one tour guide who attend Laurentian may be available.         The maintenance man will be onsite for the Fair.         5. Window replacement (farm house) – the funds are in the budget; will         proceed in the fall.         6. Copper Cliff wagon – The Dairy is still committed to supplying the         wood for repairs, and the CGS will pay the woodworkers to do the work.
        The committee suggested a ‘Meet & Greet’ so that the AFMHS members could         meet the summer students, and the students would recognize the members         when they are onsite. Will have Tim Horton’s doughnuts, etc.
        Ron and Jim will have to co-ordinate school groups coming through for         tours while the roofing contractors are working, in terms of safety         considerations.
        Old Business:
        1. Strategic Plan Meeting, Monday, June 9.         2. Finn Days – August 17th, 10:00a.m. to 4:00p.m.         3. Policy & procedures for booking site. Ron feels Jim can handle         booking the site without getting into complicated policy changes. Also         that it would not work well to have bookings done through the Citizen         Service Centre at the Library.         4. The parcel of land next to the Farm is already zoned as parkland, so         that anyone wanting to develop it would have to apply for a zoning         change.         5. Guard rails to the barn loft: Steve will make the necessary repairs         to temporarily make the railings safe.
        Action Item List:         a. Walking Trail – reviewed with Deb McIntosh. There was a change at the         entrance, and the far end will have to have some large boulders         embedded, to prevent motorized vehicles from gaining access.         b. Stable – see Ron’s report.         c. Memory Garden Fundraiser – the dance was a success. Meadowbrook would         like to do them monthly. Sheila suggested one in the fall. As there is a         bit of money for the Memory Garden, Sheila would like to start with one         flowerbed. Tony Urbanski (landscaper) is helping with planning the         Memory Garden. It is thought that he might like to join the AFMHS board;         Brian will approach him.         d. Provincial Marker – Sheila has edited the text for the plaque, and         the supporting documentation for length. Les will put them in PDF format         & send to Jim.         e. Barn roof replacement – see above.         f. Sauna –Reg reported a possibility of getting wood from a clear cut         along Hwy. 69. The wood donation has not been finalized.         g. Barn loft displays – Work in progress. Ron would like it to be done         for June, but it may not be possible for work to be done inside while         work is proceeding on the roof. Les mentioned having a grand opening         when the barn loft displays are completed, with a BBQ, car wash, etc.         h. 2008 Fall Fair – The committee has met twice. Denise Duckett & Chris         Anderson will be doing a casino night on the Saturday. Brian is talking         with potential vendors, who will be charged $20 for a table, plus a         donation for the silent auction. We will be getting a portable stage         from one of the arenas. There will be wagon rides, with Wagon Wheel         Farm, and the Fire Dept. The Walden Seniors will be doing the BBQ.         i. Dairy wagon – deferred until other projects are done.         j. Garden shed – Reg still has to locate the lady who was interested in         donating.         k. Story time – Sheila & Mary have 2 Wednesdays lined up. (A singsong,         etc.) They will have the 2nd & 3rd Wednesdays in July, and the same in         August.         l. Creighton building – displays, floors, log repair. Reg talked with         Connie. It will have to wait until other projects are done & possible         funding in 2009 budget.
        New Business: (continued)
        1. The committee would like updates on admissions, to be able to gauge         public interest, and whether we are making progress.         2. It was suggested that tour guides should have nametags, as they don’t         have uniforms.         3. A question was raised about whether Anderson Farm pamphlets are being         worked on.

        Curator’s Report: Jim, copy attached.         The Walden Youth for Youth has a goal of raising some money to offset         some of the costs of vandalism at the Farm. They will also be helping         with ongoing grounds clean up.         Six of the exhibition ‘nooks’ has been completed in the barn loft. Jim         asked for costs on that, to determine how to proceed.         There will be a total of 6 summer students, 4 at the Farm. There will be         a minimum of 2 onsite at a time. Open hours are 8:30am-4pm. At the end         of June, the Farm will be open 7 days/week.         In the event of the tipi needing to be moved, the people in that program         would be doing the moving.         Moved by Sheila, seconded by Lynn, to accept the report.         Old Business:
        1. Claire will let us know when we can have another meeting to go over         the Strategic Plan, possibly first week in June, on a Wednesday evening.        2. Kinsmen dinner – Reg and his wife attended, as Sheila and Mary were         unable to attend. Reg feels the Kinsmen would be willing to help us out         if we need it.
        3. Sheila and Mary have been working on plans for the Story time,         starting the second week in July, going for 6 weeks.
        4. Reg reports that Copper Cliff Dairy said to send them the materials         (wood) bill for repairing the Copper Cliff wagon. It is possible the         woodworkers may be able to start this summer, after finishing other         projects (i.e. barn loft).
        Action Item List:         a. Walking Trail – we will walk around the grounds and plan the location         of the trail, this Sat., 10 am.         b. Stable – Jeff Parry will have presentation for us at May or June         meeting.         c. Memory Garden Fundraiser – waiting for posters. Sauna – The woodworkers would like to do this in consultation with         Jim. Reg reported a possibility of getting wood from a clear cut along         Hwy. 69. He will check on what wood they will give us, how to get the         logs here, and where to store them. Claire suggests pursuing this in         earnest in the fall.         g. Barn loft displays – 6 units done, painting done by Walden Youth for         Youth. Electrician will start the week of April 28.         h. 2008 Fall Fair – confirmed $2500 from CGS. Jim will change the sign,         to say we are looking for volunteers for the Fair. Denise Duckett will         put on dance or casino night. Still has to book site (Kinsmen Hall or         arena).
        New Business:
        1. Discussion of parcel of land between the Farm and Anderson Drive.         Some belongs to CGS, some to school board. Sheila would like to see it         added (wood lot portion) to the Farm. Claire will find out how it is         zoned. Jim suggests we need a use for it, or we wouldn’t get it added.         We would be able to use it if we put part of the walking trail through         it.
        2. Creighton Building – There is a plan in place to have Steve doing         some of the work on it: touching up the walls (dents, painting), etc.
        3. Proper guardrails on ramp to barn loft – Claire will discuss with         Steve finding a temporary safety solution.

ANDERSON FARM MUSEUM         and HERITAGE SOCIETY’S- 2008 FALL FAIR WHERE: Anderson Farm Museum WHEN: Saturday, September 13, 2008         The Anderson Farm Museum and Heritage Society has scheduled a Fall Fair         on Saturday, September 13th at the Anderson Farm Museum. We are actively         seeking volunteers to assist in organizing and running the event. Money         will be available for funding. Proceeds from the Fall Fair will be         directed towards projects at the Museum site through the Anderson Farm         Museum and Heritage Society.
        We are looking for artists, musicians, 'traditional' craftsmen or         Community Organizations who are interested in joining with us in this         Community Event and individuals who want to get involved in the         community.

Elmer Virtanen (original owner of the one that         burnt down) may be a resource.
        2. Barn roof: Ron will call Ed Vildas tomorrow to tell him to start the         tendering process.
        3. Draft of Strategic Plan prepared by Claire. She will be at next         meeting. Motion to table until then for discussion, moved by Lynn,         seconded by Chris. Cd. It will be first on agenda. Committee asked to         email Claire with any questions, so she will be prepared to answer.
        4. Stable renovations: Ron reported that Jeff Parry’s wife passed away,         so there will be a delay. Ron will contact him after he is back to work         (in a month or so).
        5. Sheila presented the possibility of getting a historical marker put         up at the Farm. Jim will draft the 100 word text for the marker, and the         250 word supporting document for the next meeting. We will need a letter         of permission from the City, as well as a letter guaranteeing         maintenance of the marker.
        6. Sheila informed the committee that there will be a dance May 24,         7-10pm, featuring the Iona Reid Trio. 120 tickets ($5) will be         available. The cost of the band will be $240, and the proceeds will be         designated to the Memory Garden.

Who We Are
        2006 • Origins from the Walden CAN Heritage Committee established in 2006. • Chair Marte Holuka – Representatives from Community groups &         interested citizens. • Meetings through spring and summer of 2006 • Outcome was 17 recommendations to make the A.F.M. site a destination         for local and tourist visitation presented to the City of Greater         Sudbury Museum & Library Board and City Council.
        Fall 0f 2006, the Walden CAN Heritage Task Force was formed.
        Mandate: • To facilitate the implementation of the Final Report of the Walden- CAN Heritage Committee in cooperation and partnership with the City         Of Greater Sudbury Staff.         Goals:         1. To review the recommendations.         2. To separate the recommendations into Governance and Budget         subcategories.         3. To prioritize the recommendations in both the Governance and         Budget subcategories.         4. To develop a power point presentation for the January 22, 2006         public input session.         5. To develop an outline for our governance model.
        Anticipated time line:         6 months

The nine person Committee will be divided into three groups         of three, each serving a term of three years. Members may reapply for         membership on the Committee when their term is expiring. In the case of         the initial or first committee, in order to start the rotation going,         group ‘A’ will serve for one (1) year; group ‘B’ will serve for two (2)         years and group ‘C’ will serve for three (3) years.
        July 2007 - Name change from Anderson Farm Museum Site Committee to         Anderson Farm Museum & Heritage Society to meet criteria to join the         Ontario Historical Society.         This allowed us to become a non-profit organization!
        2008         On January 26, the Anderson Farm Museum Historical Society met with City         staff to form a vision for the development of Anderson Farm Museum.
        The group agreed that the strategic plan should be developed around         realistic achievable goals focusing on repairs to the structures in the         short term and advancements in the longer term.

        Secretary’s Report: Les - no correspondence to report. The filing         cabinet has been delivered to the new office. The existing cabinet that         we thought was ours belongs to Walden CAN. We will have to relocate our         files.
        Curator’s Report:         A site pamphlet specific to the Anderson Farm Museum is being made up.         In June, date yet to be determined; the German Language Club will be         holding a picnic on site.         The portable sign located at the eastern boundary along side the paved         walking path can advertise only information specific to the Anderson         farm Museum Site. This is in accordance with the City of Greater         Sudbury’s new by-law governing signs.         Motion: Reg, second, Sheila, to accept report as read. Cd.
        Old Business         1. Strategic Planning Waiting for Clair to type the minutes from the         January 26th meeting. Sheila to complete the plan to date. A further         meeting could be planned to wrap up and approve. Ron, Claire and Jim are         pleased with the work done to-date on the Strategic Plan.         2. Reg and Les sat down with Deb McIntosh to discuss the proposed trail         plan through the Museum property and to get info on costing. Deb         recommended that since Wild-at –Heart appears no longer interested due         to concerns with the wildlife that we concentrate on the portion of the         trail on Museum property only. First we have to formulate where we want         the trail to go. Deb and her designer will walk the proposed trail and         prepare a Bill of Materials and an estimated cost. Money is available         through Deb for fifty cents on the dollar for funding. Further cost         reductions can be made using volunteer labour and donated materials.         Fund raising will cover the rest. Once the snow is gone the group will         decide on a route to be submitted to Deb. Her submission to us will then         be placed into the strategic plan. Motion by Reg seconded by Mary that         we proceed with a feasibility plan on the trail. Motion passed.
        3. Discussion of the new exhibit to be set up in the barn loft is         deferred until March.
        New Business:
        1. Sheila presented information regarding a provincial plaque         commemorating the presence of an industrial dairy on the grounds of         Anderson Farm Museum. History on the plaque would be in both official         languages as well as Finnish. Cost is approximately $400.00. Mary         suggested that the money could come from the Heritage Society account.         Motion by Sheila, seconded by Reg to pursue the installation of a local         historical marker on the Anderson Farm Museum Site. Motion passed
        2. Claire presented the preliminary drawings for the winterizing and         up-grades to the Stable building. Comments from the Committee were very         positive. Claire will go back to the architect with the comments and         changes to the drawing as suggested by the Committee. At the March         meeting there should be some detailed drawings available along with         costing of this project.
        3. Kelly Ann O’Connor at Meadowbrook has proposed a joint venture         between Meadowbrook and Anderson Farm Museum to book the Iona Reid Trio         to perform at Meadowbrook. Proceeds from ticket sales would go to the         Heritage Society; Meadowbrook would provide the food and keep the         proceeds from the sale of alcohol. The Heritage Society would cover the         cost of the band. Motion by Sheila, seconded by Reg to pursue this         fundraiser. Motion passed.

        There was some discussion of a Trillium grant proposal. Claire mentioned         that application could be made up to three (3) times for a particular         project. Les mentions we can apply to Inco; he has the contact info, but         will need attendance figures. Ron expects we will receive Jeff Parry’s         architect report in the spring. Mary, Brian and Sheila are working on         the grants.
        Secretary’s Report: Lynn - no correspondence to report.
        Curator’s Report: Jim, copy attached.         Jim mentioned the “Doors Open” event (July 18,19 at end of Blueberry         Festival) has 30 sites, and 24 partners. This is a provincial program         allowing the public to see buildings not usually open to the public. The         site committee won’t be involved, but will have opportunity to         participate in “Finn Days”. Motion: Jim, second, Reg, to accept report as read. Cd.
        Old Business         1.Taking down Christmas decorations and outside lights. Sheila will ask         Winter Carnival Committee if they would like the lights left up for that         event. Reg will ask (through Jacques) about getting a donation from Dean         to take outside lights down with the truck.         Steve (electrician and maintenance for Sudbury Libraries) would like to         install proper outlets for the outdoor lights in the spring.         Reg reports that a lady wanted to donate $1000 to build a garden shed,         in return for a plaque on the side of it in memory of her husband. Ron         will match her $1000. The shed would possibly provide for extra storage         for Christmas lights, etc.         Motion: Mary, second Elsie, to store boxes of Christmas decorations         upstairs in the stable building until we get a shed. Cd.         Jim said there is no problem with waiting until warmer weather to take         down Christmas decorations inside the stable.
        New Business:
        1.Strategic Planning Meeting is planned for Saturday, January 26th,         10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the boardroom at the Mackenzie Street Public         Library. Ron is supplying lunch.         Sheila offered (and committee accepted) to facilitate. Lynn is unable to         attend. Claire will take notes.
        2. Ron presented the 2008 maintenance budget: $23,000 was spent in 2007         to rectify issues mentioned in the Health and Safety, and Fire Marshal’s         reports. We had $20,000 budgeted in previous years. The new amount is         $35,460 for annual maintenance and repairs. This is just for Anderson         Farm. There is some flexibility on how this is used. The new budget also         provides salary for a general maintenance/delivery person for the         museums, full time for six (6) months (May through October). In answer         to a question raised, Ron said the barn roof would be replaced in         sections, as funds allow.
        3. Sudbury Trail Plan, 2008, will be discussed at the Strategic Planning         Session.
        4. Les: 2008 Calendar of Events:
“Doors Open” Event – July 18, 19         125th Anniversary Celebration – sometime in July, Capreol Museum will         host an event “Finn Days” – sometime in August         Fall Fair – September 13 (Ron: CGS will again contribute $2500.)         Sudbury Art Tour (studio tour) – September 27,28         Second Annual Tree Lighting – December 13

        5. Site Committee Make-up: We are one person short. Sheila suggested         posting an ad on the Walden-CAN site, and local bulletin boards.  What is Happening at the Anderson Farm         Museum in September?
        Walden Loon Sign finds a home: With the change in road signs identifying         the entrance to the City of Greater Sudbury, the Town of Walden signs         with the Loon image on them are being retired. One of the signs will be         relocated to Anderson Farm Museum and will be displayed in the field         facing Regional Road 24.
        Special Events:         The Sudbury Arts Tour-2007 is happening September 29th and 30th(9am         5pm). This year the museum is playing host to10 local artists – 7         Artists in the Log Cabin & 3 in the Farm House.
        On September 26th and 27th, the museum is hosting the 3rd Annual Sudbury         and District Health Unit Water Festival. Over the two days, 800 grade 3         students will explore the importance and uses of water. The program is         geared to meet specific learning objectives from the Ontario Curriculum         for Grade 3 students. As the students rotate through over 30 stations,         they will experience hands on activities and demonstrations operated by         community organizations.
        LU Student Teachers Learn about Field Trips:         Student teachers from Laurentian University’s School of Continuing         Education, will be touring the museum in order to learn about field         trips. These students are in training to teach Intermediate History. The         students will learn what to expect from museums, and what museums expect         from teachers.
        Tipi For Traditional Talking Circles:         For those of you who were wondering; the tipi which has been installed         at the museum, is part of The Aboriginal Children's Cultural Program and         is offered through Specialized Support Services at the Children's Aid         Society in Sudbury, to aboriginal children in care. The program provides         opportunities for these children to link to the aboriginal community,         and provide culturally appropriate activities.
        The program allows participants to use the tipi for talking circles.         This is viewed as a traditional, holistic alternative to counseling. The         tipi is used each Wednesday- for traditional talking circles and         traditional teachings and are facilitated by community Elders.
        September Means New Hours at AFM:         Now that our summer students are returning to school, the museum will be         closed on weekends, with the exceptions noted above. The museum will be         operating an information booth at the Farmers Market during weekends,         September 8th to the 23rd. Tours of the Anderson Farm are still         available by appointment.

Update from the Anderson Farm Site         Committee
        The Anderson Farm Museum Site Committee is now operational             and has met with city staff to discuss Anderson Farm Museum and the         recommendations of the Anderson Farm Task Force that were prepared last         year. Priorities are being set and work has begun.         The Anderson Farm Museum hosted the City Of Greater Sudbury Public         Library ‘Story Hour’ at the Museum during July. Children and their         parents enjoyed stories, singing, crafts and a snack. The event was very         well attended.
        The Sudbury Arts Tour –2007 will again include the Anderson Farm Museum         on September 29th and 30th. 10 local Walden artists will be displaying a         variety of works in the Farm House and Creighton log building. The         public will be able to meet the artists and purchase some art work .
        The Walden Winter Carnival has made a cash donation to the Anderson Farm         Museum Site Committee to assist with upgrading facilities at the Museum.         Currently, the Walden Winter Carnival uses the grounds for dog sled         rides. With upgrades to the facilities for winter use, the Walden Winter         Carnival hopes to make the Anderson Farm a venue for an expanded line up         of Walden Winter Carnival events.
        The Walden Community Organic Garden is again situated at the Anderson         Farm Museum. This organic garden is operating for the second year. The         gardeners are of all ages are growing a variety of vegetables for         personal use and the food bank.

The Anderson Farm Museum Site Committee is looking for interested people willing to volunteer their time to become members of the Fall Fair Organizing Committee. Anderson Farm Museum Site Committee
The Anderson Farm Museum Site Committee has three openings for volunteers to serve as Committee Persons. Below is a modified description of the duties and terms of the position. 1. Duties and Terms of Committee Members
Committee Persons • Shall volunteer to serve as Project Co-coordinators, Funding Co-coordinators or volunteers as the need arises as related to projects, activities, promotions and community events as agreed to by the Committee.
1. Project Coordinator Function • Acts as liaison between user groups and Committee regarding projects • Audits projects to ensure paperwork is complete including but not limited to costing, prints and proper permits where applicable. • Assists Committee in presenting projects to the Director of Citizen Services and/or the Manager Library & Museums, Greater City of Sudbury
2. Fundraising Coordinator Function • Coordinates fundraising for the following but not limited to projects, activities, promotions and community events as agreed to by the Committee. • Responsible for making presentations to potential donors i.e. local businesses, service groups, associations, individuals, etc, etc. • Investigates sources of major funding such as Provincial and Federal grants for various projects including but not limited to acquisitions, capital expenditures, collection maintenance and repair and on site specialty manpower requirements as agreed to by the Committee. • Reports regularly to the Committee on the status of all fundraising and promotions. • Works with the Project Coordinators to match local funding to assigned projects. Who is eligible? Any resident of the City of Greater Sudbury who is an owner or tenant of land in the City of Greater Sudbury, or spouse of an owner or tenant of land in the City of Greater Sudbury.

All applications should clearly indicate your reason or reasons for applying for a position on the Committee and a short personal resume.
Time Commitment? Committee members will be expected to attend monthly meetings; other meetings as called and volunteer as the need arises as related to projects, activities, promotions and community events as agreed to by the Committee.
How are Appointments Made? When the application deadline is reached, the Secretary of the Anderson Farm Museum Site Committee will include all of the applications received on the agenda of the next meeting. The Committee will vote on each of the appointments after which a letter will be sent to all those who applied to inform them of the Committee’s decision.
Terms of Appointment Three years. The nine person Committee will be divided into three groups of three, each serving a term of three years. Members may reapply for membership on the Committee when their term is expiring. In the case of the initial or first committee, in order to start the rotation going, group ‘A’ will serve for one (1) year; group ‘B’ will serve for two (2) years and group ‘C’ will serve for three (3) years.
